Professional LED construction spotlight

Do you know what to consider when choosing your spotlight? In the text, we discuss what you should pay attention to when you choose lighting for construction and finishing works. We analyze the quality of LEDs, the floodlight's power and luminous flux, lamp life, impact resistance, and durability, and, finally, the tools' mobility and the possibility of their easy installation in the workplace. These are just a few of the most important features of a good reflector for construction, which, together with other meaningful aspects, are presented in the article.

Watts or Lumens... which unit is the most important?

When choosing the spotlight in the store, it may be tempting to buy a specific model because of the high power displayed on the packaging. Does the power really tell us a lot about a given spotlight? Not completely. Classic incandescent bulbs consumed, for example, 100W, but they have given away up to 80% in the form of heat! A lot has changed in the era of LED devices. LED diodes can have low power when compared to their predecessors, but illuminates the surroundings much brighter. Therefore, the power given in watts provides us with incomplete information about the parameters of the light source, because, in fact, it primarily indicates the amount of electricity consumed.

When buying a spotlight, check the amount of lumens. It tells you how strong is the luminous flux emitted by a given light source. The rule is simple: the more lumens, the more light. However, the use of lumens also has some disadvantages. Depending on the model the same room may be lit differently. After all, the light may be point-like, e.g. a LED bulb may cast a light from the ceiling onto the table beneath it, but other parts of the room will be dimly lit. On the other hand, it may generate diffused light that will not be focused on a single point.

Do you know what LEDs are used in your spotlight?

Various types of diodes are installed in LED construction spotlights. The newer ones, the SMD2835, shine stronger than the older models, the SMD3528. They ensure low energy consumption and high intensity of the generated light beam at the same time. And that's what PRO mounts SMD2835 in the construction spotlights.

The service life of the spotlight matters... after all, you buy it for longer!

LEDs have the advantage over other light sources that they enable the use of construction spotlights for a really long time. PRO equips LED spotlights with LEDs with a lifetime of 25,000 hours. A simple calculation shows that you can use them for 8.5 years, turning them on for 8 hours daily! For comparison, ordinary, classic light bulbs only offer about 1000 hours of operation. Remember, however, that you can find LEDs of different quality. Not all of them have this level of service life. The aforementioned, verified SMD2835 models ensure you will forget about buying a new construction spotlight for many years.

Should you choose a 360° or directional spotlight?

One of the most important decisions you need to make before purchasing a construction spotlight is the range of the light beam. For many applications, the beam angle of 120° is sufficient. It is offered by, for example, PRO-LD401 and PRO-LD617. These models allow you to work effectively with single planes. However, if you work in a team, share tasks, and need a beam of light generated at a wider angle, consider the PRO-LD620 model. It is a foldable model with one 80W LED light source and two smaller 30-watt reflectors. When you "open" this spotlight, you can direct the light in three directions.

Professionals often choose the PRO-LD622 model, which emits the light evenly in all directions. Its parameters will allow for comfortable lighting of several dozen square meters.

Pay attention to the mounting options!

If you decide to use a spotlight that casts the light in a specific direction, choose one that enables changing the beam angle. Some models, such as the PRO-LD401 and PRO-LD620, can be mounted on a tripod. Thanks to this, you can easily set the height at which the light beam is cast. You'll also easily rotate it, so it illuminates the expected spot at a given time.

When working on a construction site, the problem of blocking the light source often arises. Therefore, it is worth considering whether you will need the option of suspending the floodlight to steel profiles with magnets. For such tasks, we designed the PRO-LD401 model. It features four very strong neodymium magnets at the bottom of the reflector. A stream of strong light generated from under the ceiling ensures comfort and solves the problem mentioned above.

What standards of ingress protection and durability should the spotlight meet?

A spotlight adapted to the conditions on the construction site is one that meets the requirements for IP54 class devices. Only then is the device resistant to weather conditions, dust, and dirt. We consider this class to be the minimum standard. Such a level of protection has been implemented, among others, in PRO-LD617 and PRO-LD401 models.

If you know that there are extreme conditions in the construction site or you just want to be sure that the spotlight will resist practically anything, it is worth looking for a product with IP69K tightness. Spotlights such as the PRO-LD620 are fully dustproof and resistant to flooding with a strong stream of water. In addition, they are suitable for contact with high temperature and pressure, which in practice means that you can carry out intensive cleaning after finishing work.

The other aspect worth remembering is the standard of mechanical strength. After all, you probably expect the spotlight to withstand a fall or accidental impact that may happen during finishing or construction work! In this case, you should check PRO-LD620 and PRO-LD622 models. The first one features the IK08 mechanical resistance class, i.e. it is resistant to impact energy of 5J. Imagine you knocked down a hammer during work, so it fell straight onto the spotlight. We assure you nothing bad is going to happen! In the case of PRO-LD622, the mechanical resistance is even better (IK10 class) - a heavy 5 kg hammer can fall on the device from a height of almost 0.5 meters. Accidentally dropping a reflector while working on a ladder or scaffolding will not damage it either.

A mobile spotlight must have a solid battery!
The spotlights can be power supplied over wire or feature a rechargeable battery. The second solution allows you to work away from the power source, e.g. in the garden or in a warehouse. Although all PRO spotlights are compact and well-thought-out, so that transport is not a problem for you, sometimes the battery becomes necessary.

When designing battery-powered construction spotlights, our designers focused on solid solutions..

PRO-LD617 has a Li-Ion battery with a capacity of 8800mAh. It will therefore allow for many hours of uninterrupted work. Interestingly, you can connect your smartphone or other devices to it, and the spotlight will become a power bank that charges your equipment!

We don't always need a very intense light beam. Therefore, consider looking for spotlights with ability to regulate the power. Such solution is included in the PRO-LD401 model. It can provide a light flux of 3000lm or 1500lm. At the same time, when limiting the light power, we extend the battery life twice - from 3 hours when using full power to 6 hours if we turn on the 50% mode!

Does your spotlight have the right color?

The color of the light (the color temperature) tells us whether the spotlight offers a "cooler" or "warmer" beam of light. When choosing a device, pay attention to the values given in degrees Kelvin. Look for a spotlight that will provide you with a neutral, "white" color.

Avoid spotlights with the color temperature of orange and yellow. The neutral color allows you to see all the necessary details without distortions.

PRO Fachmayer and PRO Fachmayer MAX spotlights feature a stream of light with a color of 4000K. It is a value characterizing white light, which is the most desirable and eye-friendly. You will see items in their natural colors. Therefore, they will prove themselves in any work requiring precision, where you need to see details, e.g. when you work with drywall or while painting.
