PRO tile leveling system

Gone are the days when tiling was based solely on a spirit level. This is still useful, but nowadays, the perfectly even surface of the tiles is ensured by special leveling systems. They shorten the working time, are comfortable and easy to use, and the effect is more than satisfactory. Although everyone declares that this will be the case, it actually depends on the design of the clips and wedges (system elements), the material from which they were made, and the solutions invented by the manufacturer to facilitate the work.

Why use a leveling system? What types of leveling systems are available on the market?

When working with the leveling system, you will lay the tiles so that you minimize the risk of unwanted lippage between them. Its proper use ensures that the surface will be as even as the water surface. A few years ago, this solution was a small revolution - the systems eliminate the level differences between adjacent tiles, but most of all they speed up the work, making the renovation less burdensome and allowing everyone to lay perfectly even tiles in their own home. Remember it is a myth that tile leveling systems are considered sufficient to obtain a perfectly level surface. Despite the advancement of tile leveling kits, it is necessary to use a spirit level, e.g. PRO900 Heavy Duty or electronic model PRO900 Digital. Thanks to them, you can set the level for the first two tiles, and then you can control the situation during later work.

The wedge and clip of the PRO SP-800 tile leveling system

Focus on systems consisting of clips and wedges. In these leveling kits, a clip is inserted between the tiles and then a wedge is clamped thereon. It exerts equal pressure on the adjacent tiles. It is usually these leveling systems that have the best opinions among users.

At PRO, at our factory in Bielsko-Biała, we produce two types of leveling systems. If you want to exert even and powerful force on the tiles, choose PRO SP-800. The wedges are massive in this tile leveling system. They press down the tiles thanks to the possibility of firmly clamping them in the "eye" of the clip. This unique product is designed to work with a wide range of tiles and porcelain stoneware, both thin, 3-millimeter (so-called slim), and glaze even 17 mm thick.

System poziomujący płytki PRO SP-600

The basic system, PRO-SP600, is adapted to work with tiles with a thickness of 6 to 13 mm. The wedge has two "legs" that surround the clip and provide symmetrical, very strong pressure.

Some choose the so-called reusable systems. However, these solutions have their drawbacks. After the tiles have been placed, a T-shaped wire is inserted between them. Then it aims to counter the pressure exerted by the upper element (usually a clamp, a cone or a nut).

After the adhesive has dried, this wire should be turned and carefully pulled out from between the joints. The problem arises when the adhesive oozes out and floods the wire - then the work becomes time-consuming and frustrating. It also happens that the system is not properly adjusted to the thickness of the tiles and the clamp simply... will not clamp the plates because it will be too weak.

What should you pay attention to when choosing a tile leveling system?

Pay attention to the material used in production. Thanks to unique solutions invented by PRO experts, the material used is hard and guarantees adequate pressure and leveling of the tiles. At the same time, it is so flexible, springy and resilient that the clips do not break when tightening the wedges, but they only break when they are broken off. This is appreciated by professionals who emphasize that they can break them off with a tiling hammer or a simple kick. The flexibility ensures that the wedges do not break during use and are actually reusable.

The design of the clips is very important. They should have appropriate grooves at the base to reduce the risk of you having to pick out remains. The correct shape is also significant, as it will prevent thicker tiles from spreading when the wedge is clamped, and will prevent unintentional widening of the grout. They must have a well-designed profile that allows them to be clamped really tight, so ultimately it is easy to achieve the effect of a perfectly leveled surface.

Great attention was also paid to the shape of the wedges. The "teeth" are densely distributed on the upper surface, so you can very precisely select the clamping force. Convenience, on the other hand, is ensured by the appropriately contoured rear part of the wedge, to which the pliers discussed below match perfectly. You can be sure that all system components are stable when crimping, and thus the risk of breakage at the wrong moment is minimized.

PRO tile leveling systems undergo rigorous quality tests, which are a permanent part of the production process. The proper operation of the system is checked on an ongoing basis in the production hall and the laboratory. It is thanks to the appropriate standards and the appropriate material that the elements of the system behave properly also during work at low temperatures - on the order of a few degrees Celsius above zero.

Usually, the leveling kits are sold in packages of a different number of pieces. Therefore, it is necessary to properly estimate how many clips and wedges we will need.

How is the tiling process performed with the use of a leveling system?

First, cover the surface with adhesive or mortar using a notched trowel.Embed the tile in the prepared place. There will be a small space between the edge of the tile and the substrate - however, it is sufficient for your needs. The base of the clip should be inserted into it. Then prepare the surface for another tile. When arranging it, make sure that the base of the clip is between the two tiles. Now use the wedge.Depending on the system, it may have two "teeth" and the clip will be placed between them, or it can be prepared to be clamped in the hole of the clip. Adequate force must be used. Therefore, special pliers will work best. Thanks to them, putting on a few hundred wedges will go smoothly and your fingers will not hurt.

The pliers for the tile leveling system rest on an ergonomic crimping handle and a pressure counterpart adjustable with a knob. At the same time, thanks to the solutions used, you can easily adjust the pressure. The product is made of durable polyamide reinforced with glass fiber, i.e. a material used in technology for the production of elements with the highest resilience parameters. The material is resistant to abrasion, temperature changes, and many chemicals. That is why the pliers work long and trouble-free, even in the toughest conditions.

Repeat the whole process until the planned area is covered with tiles. After the appropriate time has elapsed, when the adhesive bonds the tiles with the substrate, break off the clips with a tiling hammer. Though you won't use the clip anymore, the wedges are reusable - so you just need to get a new package of clips.
